Hy-Vee Trip 4/30/11...$3.60!

Hy-Vee Trip 4/30/11...$3.60
I took a quick trip to Hy-Vee & ALDI, today, to grab some free ketchup and some great prices on produce. I was holding back a bit on buying much because I wanted to at least stick pretty close to the grocery budget I've been challenging myself to.  I think I've gone a hair over budget this month...but, still did pretty well.  I thought it was worth while to go a little over budget in order to get some nice (low-priced) produce for my family.  I was tempted by some beer & pop at Hy-Vee, too, but had some trouble justifying going over budget for those, today.

Here's what I chose to buy at Hy-Vee today:
2-Heinz Ketchup, 40 oz, $1.99 each
+ used two $2/1 coupons
= both FREE

1-Red seedless grapes, 2.02 lbs. @ $0.99/lb.
= $2.00

4-Jazz apples, 1.62 lbs. @ $0.99/lb.
= $1.60

Total: $3.60 to subtract from my $200/mo. grocery budget

ALDI Trip 4/30/11...$5.37!

ALDI Trip 4/30/11...$5.37
Well, I took a quick trip to ALDI & Hy-Vee today.  We needed some milk & both stores had some pretty good prices on produce.  I probably would have purchased more but I'm trying to stick closer to my $200/mo. grocery budget which was really getting tight toward the end of April.  So glad there's a new month starting tomorrow! :-)

Here's what I chose to buy at ALDI today:
1-Strawberries, 1 lb., $0.99/lb. ~these are delicious!
2-Milk, skim, 1 gallon, $2.19 each

Total: $5.37 to subtract from my $200/mo. grocery budget

ALDI Deals Week of 4/27/11 - 5/3/11!

ALDI is always a great place to go if you want to save about 50% off regular grocery store prices!  They're my typical go-to store for produce and milk, especially!  They don't take coupons...so, it's always a quick & simple trip.  For more about shopping and saving at ALDI, see Store Tips & Policies: Grocery Stores

This week 4/27 - 5/3, 2011, my favorite deals (from the ad) are:
Cantaloupe, $0.99 each!
Strawberries, $0.99/lb.!
Mangoes, $0.49 each!
Bananas $0.44/lb. ~not long ago the regular price was $0.39/lb.  So, this has gone up but is still the lowest price around this week (as far as I know). UPDATE:  Supposedly, Kwik Trip now has bananas at $0.38/lb.  Yay!  Thanks, Operation$40K!

Hy-Vee Deals Week of 4/24/11 - 4/30/11!

Hy-Vee does not seem to be having a special 1, 2 or 3 day sale this week.  So, the deals listed below should be available the entire week.  There are some pretty good deals here & there throughout the ad this week!

To learn more about shopping & saving at Hy-Vee, see: Store Tips & Policies: Grocery Stores

Here are the deals that stood out for me this week (4/24- 4/30, 2011):

Produce
Chilean Red Seedless Grapes, $0.99/lb.
= $0.99/lb.

Exotic Kiwi Fruit, $0.25 each
= $0.25 each!

= $0.99/lb.

General Grocery

Hy-Vee 100% Natural Fresh Chicken Leg Quarters, $0.77/lb.
= $0.77/lb.

+ use in ad coupon to purchase two and receive one Pepsi Products 12 pack cans select varieties, FREE
+ use $1/2 Palermo's Pizza printable
= price varies, when you buy two! ~I think I'd consider this deal if the pizza is priced at $3.50 each or less.  I like to pay no more than $2.00 for a 12 pack of soda.  So, at $3.50 each pizza this would make your overall cost $7 (for two pizza's) - $1.00 pizza coupon, - $2.00 FREE soda coupon = $4.00 ($2.00/pizza) ~pretty decent price!

Household
Midwest Country Fare 2X Laundry Detergent, select varieties 45.4 fl. oz., $1.88
= $1.88 ~I'm hoping an He variety is included in the sale

Copps Deals 4/25/11 - 4/27/11! Don't pay $0.59/lb. for Bananas!

You can double up to five manufacturer coupons (with a value of $1.00 or less) on Saturdays and Wednesdays (through Sat. July 9th, 2011).  Your total order needs to be at least $25 before tax and after store coupons, and you need to use your Roundy's rewards card in order for your coupons to double.  Individual store coupon policies may vary, so be sure to check in with customer service.  For more information about shopping & saving at Copps, see Store Tips & Policies: Grocery stores.

We have a short ad for Copps, to get us through Wednesday of this week.  Here are the deals that stood out for me for (4/25 - 4/27, 2011)...not many!  Which deals are your favorites?:
Produce
Gala Apples From Washington, $0.99/lb.
= $0.99/lb.

Ripe or Green Bananas, $0.59/lb. ~I do NOT think this is a good deal!
= $0.59/lb. ~up until recently, we could get bananas at ALDI for $0.39/lb.  They're now $0.44/lb. at ALDI, so it seems the price is rising...however, $0.59/lb. is ridiculously high.  Bananas are clearly FOR Sale but not ON Sale in this Copps ad!

Meat
Hillshire Farm Ultra Thin Deli Shaved or Hearty Slices Lunchmeat, selected 8-9 oz. Tub varieties, $3.00 each
+ use $1/1 Hillshire Farm LunchMeat printable
= $1.00 each after doubled coupon

General Grocery
Kellogg's Cereal, selected 8.56 - 18 oz. varieties, $1.99
+ search "Kellogg's cereal" in Coupon Database at the bottom of blog to find coupons for varieties that interest you.  A coupon valued at $1/1 would be worth $2/1 when doubled, making this cereal FREE!  A coupon valued at $0.70/1 would be worth $1.40 when doubled, making this cereal $0.59 each, etc.
= price varies ~I like to pay no more than $1.00 per box of cereal.

Refrigerated
Yoplait Light, Thick & Creamy, or Light Thick & Creamy Yogurt, selected 6 oz. varieties, $0.50 each
+ use $1/10 Yoplait Yogurt, exp. 5-21-11 (SS 03/27/11 #1)

Interview Nathan Engels, TLC's most EXTREME couponer!

I'm so excited to announce that Madison Coupon Connection has been given the opportunity to interview TLC's most Extreme Couponer: Nathan Engels (a.k.a. "Mr. Coupon")!

Nathan has been featured on two episodes of TLC's Extreme Couponing & may just be the most extreme of extreme couponers!  Do you remember him?  On the first show, he's was the couponer that bought $5743 worth of product (yes! FIVE THOUSAND seven hundred forty-three!) for a mere $241!...that's a 95% savings!  On the second show he was featured in, he donated over 1000 care packages to the military!

Nathan also runs a very popular and highly visited blog/website: WeUseCoupons.com

Here's how this will work:
  • Madison Coupon Connection (and it's readers) have been invited to ask Nathan up to 5 questions!  We can also ask one additional question of Nathan's mom!
  • What would you like to ask Nathan (and his mom)?  I'd love to hear your suggestions!  Please post as many (positive & upbeat) question ideas as you can think of in the comments section below this post!
  • I plan to leave this post open to question suggestions through the end of Sunday 4/24/11. Once I've gathered up all of the questions, & chosen five (+ one for his mom), I'll be sending the selected questions to Nathan & will later post the questions along with his replies on a new post for all to read! :-)

*NEW* Madison Coupon Connection PRICE LIST!

New Madison Coupon Connection"Price List!" page!
When I was just starting out in couponing, I'll admit, I had no idea how much I had been spending on the majority of the products I was buying.  It's taken some time to get a handle on the best "buy" prices in our area, and I'm still continuing to learn how low prices can go.

On this new page, I've listed the prices I try not to pay more than.  Many products can be purchased for FREE (with rebate/coupon/register reward/other) at some time or another.  However, if that's not possible, then these are the prices I aim to match or beat by pairing a coupon with a great sale.

The prices I aim for are based on what I've seen in the Madison, WI area.  I plan to update these "buy" prices as trends change & as I continue to learn.  Please note that prices can vary significantly by region.
Check out the new "Price List!" page HERE!  Are these prices close to what you've been aiming for with couponing & strategic shopping?  It would be great to know if you have been able to find lower prices in our area on a regular basis.  Let's share & learn together! :-)

Coupon Database Issues...Updated: Resolved! :-)

You may be noticing a strange white screen displaying in place of the Coupon Database at the bottom of the blog. The database is displayed on Madison Coupon Connection but is generously provided by another blog, dealseekingmom.com. My hope is that there will be a resolution to this issue in the near future.
UPDATE:  I'm happy to report that this issue has now been resolved! :-)

Until this issue is resolved, you can find another coupon database under the "Find Coupons" Tab toward the top of the home page on weusecoupons.com.

You can also still print coupons from the Madison Coupon Connection "Print Coupons!" page which you'll find by clicking the "Print Coupons!" tab toward the top of the Madison Coupon Connection blog.
