| ALDI Trip 4/8/11...$16.14 |
After my trip to Hy-Vee this morning, I made a stop at nearby ALDI. It was a good trip, but I was a little sad to see some rising prices. For instance, bananas (which had been $0.39/lb. as long as I've been shopping there regularly) are now $0.44/lb....& tortilla chips seem to have risen from $0.99/bag to $1.19/bag. I still bought some bananas, but I had been hoping to buy more. At this price, I held back to one bunch. I'm afraid rising grocery store prices might just be where we're headed. :-( This makes it all the more important to stick to a reasonable budget & be sure to shop & coupon strategically. I still highly encourage shopping at ALDI, though. I think we'll still be finding significant savings here (as compared to regular grocery store prices).
Here's what I chose to buy at ALDI today:
1-Bananas, one bunch, $0.44/lb. = $0.791-Red grapes, 2 lbs., $1.49 ($0.75/lb.) ~great price!
1-Rice cakes, carmel flavored, $1.29 ~a great snack for the kids
2-Flour Tortillas, $0.99 each
1-Multipack peppers, 3, red, orange & yellow, $1.99 ~great price!
1-Large eggs, dozen, $1.08
1-Milk 1%, 1 gallon, $2.35
1-85% Lean Ground Beef, 1 lb., $2.49
1-Canola cooking spray, $1.19
1-Strawberry preserves, $1.49
Total = $16.14 to subtract from my $200/mo. grocery budget

I'm with you, the prices are increasing everywhere. As I was updating the price list, I was shocked to see the increase from last week. There is always a few increases, but usually also decreases every week, but this week it was all increases and way too many. My biggest worry is that when the prices go up this way, they rarely go down again.
ReplyDeleteMy family drink a lot of orange juice, and we used to get the 1 gallon Publix orange juice at $2.49 - $2.99. It is now $4.99, and it has been like that for about SIX months....which is why we now buy orange juice at Aldi.
